Therapy for Parenting Stress

Parenting can be wonderful. It can also be stressful. There are many points in the process of becoming a parent where expectations of what should be can differ greatly from your actual experience. The journey into parenthood can be harder than expected.

Pregnancy is often physically and emotionally rough. The birthing process can be brutal and disappointing. Each stage of parenting—newborns, toddlers, young children, teenagers, and adult children—brings its own unique challenges.

Most people don’t learn how to be effective parents, and many are simply trying to avoid repeating the mistakes their own parents made. Social media continually reminds you, “One day, you’re going to miss this,” which can leave you feeling guilty, ungrateful, and alone when you don’t enjoy every minute of parenthood.

You are not alone. Therapy can help you recognize which parts of your experience are normal and manage the stress of whatever stage of parenting you’re in. If you’re not sure how to change the parts of parenting you’d like to improve, therapy can help with that, too.
