Moving Past Difficult Experiences
(Trauma Therapy)
Sometimes we experience things that are so stressful or unexpected they shift how we think and feel about the world, other people, and ourselves. We may pull away from others or doubt our own judgment. After these experiences, it’s common to feel edgy and fearful in public or have trouble trusting other people. If you had a hard childhood, you may have felt this way for as long as you can remember. If difficult, traumatic, or life-changing experiences continue to disrupt your life for longer than a few months, it usually means something has interrupted the healing process. I explain a little more about why people have trouble moving forward after difficult experiences in this post.
There are many therapies that can help you feel better, even if you’ve been dealing with these symptoms for a long time. Together, we will identify what is getting in your way and how you can heal and move past what you went through. The therapies I offer to those who would like help moving past difficult experiences, including those that were traumatic, are Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Written Exposure Therapy (WET), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and DBT-Prolonged Exposure Therapy (DBT-PE).
